Butterfly

Welcome to the resource center for the M3 and M4 butterfly ultrasound project.

We are very excited to be continuing your ultrasound education into the clinical years.  During your time on your Internal Medicine rotation, you will have the opportunity to practice obtaining images on actual patients, and sending them in for feedback.  To do this, we have been able to acquire Butterfly IQ probes, that plug directly into your phone or tablet.  You will check this probes out from the Curriculum office for 1 week at a time.  During this week, you should obtain at least 4 complete studies, one each of Cardiac, Lung, Aorta and DVT.  Videos on how to obtain these studies are located directly in the butterfly app under the education section, or in the below powerpoint.  Additionally there are many free resources listed below that have great ultrasound education.  Finally – we will continue to do ultrasound “rounds” where you will scan with a faculty member on real patients.  These rounds will be scheduled through the internal medicine clerkship coordinator.

Should you have any questions, please reach out directly to one of the faculty members for this course:

Michael Joyce – john.joyce@vcuhealth.org
Jordan Tozer – jordan.tozer@vcuhealth.org
Sammy Pedram – sammy.pedram@vcuhealth.org

Thanks and happy scanning!
